Part 1. Resident Species

These species are present at various concentrations comprising the composite consistency of approximately 0.5 %.

This is resident species of a papermaking furnish :

1. Dissolved electrolytes
2. Suspended fibers
3. Suspended fiber fines
4. Suspended filler particles
5. Water
6. Surface - active molecules (either alone or as aggregates). Examples : detergents, dispersant, wood extractives, and defoamers.
7. Dissolved polyelectrolytes. Examples : polyacrylamides, cationic starch, and wet strength agents.
8. Aggregated sizing molecules.
